Anglers are finding more smallmouth bass along with walleye on the submerged structure. The border waters walleye season extends to mid-April. Rainy is in zone 5 but under border water regulations. Although I’ve fished Rainy at other times of the year, I definitely prefer the mid-lake reef bite in July. The walleye are a little deeper and the shoals east of Grindstone Island have been the hottest spots.
